McCain’s election year conversion to immigration enforcement.

Senator McCain was asked about the new Arizona immigrant trespassing bill, and said the following: “I think it’s a good tool. It’s a tool that needs to be used.”

It seems to me that he is counting on us forgetting how he championed the immigration reform effort several years ago, where he tried to put in place a “path to citizenship.” He refused to put the term “amnesty” on it, even though that’s what it was.

Does anyone who has followed McCain very closely have any doubts that McCain’s current position is stated as strongly as it is, only because he is being challenged in his effort to be re-elected?
